Live the Dream

About Us:

We are a small, family owned retreat center located 20 minutes outside of Whitefish, Montana and about an hour from Glacier National Park. We have been cultivating a thriving organic garden and orchard for over 20 years, and the food we grow feeds the ranch residents, as well as those who attend retreats at our facility. We also can, cellar, or freeze a considerable amount of the food we produce each year. Our guiding philosophy enables us to move closer to food self sufficiency with each growing season, as well as to nurture our ranch and local communities, while also protecting the land on which we live. We abut state and national forest land on three sides, and foster a quiet lifestyle that allows us to fully appreciate the benefits of the amazing place we live: swimming in the pond, hiking on the trails, and soaking in the serenity around us.

Wwoofing Here:

We are seeking 2 volunteers for our 2016 season, which runs approximately April through September. We are looking for long term volunteers who are interested in joining us for the length of our growing season, or a significant portion thereof, and are comfortable working independently on occasion. Our volunteer tasks include assisting in our garden and orchard (weeding, watering, harvesting and preserving), as well as some grounds care and helping with our noxious weed management program. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in learning more about the full cycle of a growing season, as well as food preservation techniques and land management strategies. We request a part time work commitment of 20 hours per week. Compensation includes housing on site at our 400 acre ranch and retreat center, produce from our garden and greenhouse, and a weekly food stipend. Volunteers have access to a self contained kitchen and have the freedom to cook for themselves, as we do not prepare community meals. Please keep in mind that we are 20 minutes from town, so an appreciation for being “away from it all” makes for a good fit. We are unable to accommodate pets.

For more information about Walking Lightly Ranch, please see our website.  If interested, please send an email to briefly outlining your previous work and volunteer experience, as well as the reasons you are interested in volunteering for Walking Lightly Ranch.  Please note that we will interview interested volunteers on a rolling basis until we find a good match.
